So what are the long-term plans for this forum

You planning on keeping the forum running, or at some point taking it down because it's only a demo board.

See AWS has taken all his demo boards down that was linked too on Admin Talk now he sold it, so looks like he really has got out the forum game.

This will probably keep running, and always be updated to the latest public alpha or beta.....

Seems to be quite a well received idea.

My own forum has been a test bed for phpBB 3.1, still is really until it goes Gold version. I think there's one more RC4 version to come, then Gold release after that. But running RC2 and now RC3 since last week, there's been no issues at all with either version, no error logs or anything spotted since running RC2. So even at RC3 now it's very stable indeed.

I honestly don't know how anyone manages with phpBB.
It, and SMF, drive me potty. I usually run a mile whenever I see either of those installed anywhere.

phpBB 3.1 is very different from phpBB 3.0.x. On the face of it, you might not think so because they both look quite similar, but you have to keep in mind the new features it has over 3.0.x version, along with it using Symphony, JQuery and more in core. There's no comparison to phpBB 3.0, even mods are installed as extensions in 2 seconds. A lot more changes are coming yet, but the major ones may only come in phpBB 3.2. A new default theme is planned for that version, alonh with more I've read about that's missed the 3.1 feature release pushed over to 3.2.

It just looks liek something out of the 1990's, and a phpBB site always screams "cheapskate" or "silly teenager" to me. Probably an outdaed view in this Facebook age, but there was a time when anayone aged 12-15 was setting up phpBB boards for them and their mates to hurl insults at each other.

Well quite a few style changes have been made to my forum. I'm very happy with the result.

Yes, you're talking about the days of phpBB2. That is what? 15 or more years ago when it was "by far the best free forum software" you could use, which it was in its time and why everyone used it. Long time ago that though Mark.

You can find 15 and 16 years olds throwing insults around on any forum software today. Go visit TAZ and see.... you already left their because of it. You'll find plenty insults being thrown around on Twitter and Facebook too, why they're always in the news over it. Yes, you do have bit of an outdated view.
