Then that should be accompanied by closing or deleting the thread with an explanation that they don't allow attacks on staff members of software companies in their niche. That's what most similar sites do. Try going and Paul.M's CableForum and start bashing a member of Virgin Media staff - they don't tolerate it. And that's because the site needs Virgin Media staff posting on there. If they just get bashed, they stop and the site loses relevance and credibility - which is exactly what's happened to TAZ.

And let me tell you, in CableForum's early days, it was called nthellworld, because Virgin Media used to be called ntl. And believe me ntl was hated and despised on a far grander scale than anything vBulletin has to deal with. Yet they still managed to have ntl staff helping out on the forum, I know because I was one of them.

So yes, the way TAZ handles it is all wrong. They prefer to go with the drama.

I've just had a "guest-nose" over there, and I notice the Brogan-bashing continues unabated.

I'll tell you something about Brogan...he does an absolutely fantastic job of providing support (and no he is NOT Kier either) and those toxic people trying to destroy his reputation on a third party site he doesn't even post on, over a minor and insignificant remark he made should be ashamed of themselves.

The continued "bashing" of him is exactly the same sort of thing that I got fed up with. No wonder nobody from XenForo actually posts on there...I wonder that is? The answer is that they probably now take the same view as myself and practically everyone else from any software company. Only a hardy few remain.

Exactly! Well, I don't want that in my life but my attempts to resolve the matter with TAZ proved unsuccessful so I "slung my hook" so to speak.
It's sad because there WERE people on there who appreciated what I was doing, especially the "next version showcase" threads I did, which pointed to this demo site. It enabled a wider audience to ask questions, which they did, and I also took bug reports from them and logged them in the Tracker, a dozen or so of these got fixed in the beta phase ready for full release.

It was an excellent and fruitful exercise, but TAZ decided it was also ok for the usual gang of "haters" to wade in and destroy the threads and post lies in them, with me being told I couldn't challenge them (at one point I was even thread-banned from one of my own threads!) so....out I walked!

Well, trouble is Mark. It's all right saying the staff don't step in as much as they could do. But doing that can also drive posters away if they think the forum is being too picky about what can left posted. I'm not against the drama on forums. But when a person is being singled out too much by other members and the staff don't deal with that issue - then I'd agree, but I'm not against drama on forums because half the time most normal mundane topics are boring as hell.
I've done work on forums in the past that deal with a particular company or market sector. The successful ones have strict policies that if staff from any of the companies post on the forum (which is usually in their own time), they are not to be "attacked" and trolled and insulted. It's not hard. You can disagree with someone without attacking them.

TAZ went for the drama instead. That's fine, it's their decision, but the results speak for themselves - hardly anyone from any of the software companies operating in the niche TAZ covers, will post on their site any more. To me, that's a major credibility issue.

    He probably misses you.

You see the trouble is, most of the "interesting" characters have given up and gone away, for various reasons. It's a great shame, it could be a fantastic resource but they went down the drama route for whatever reason so most of the staff from the main forum software companies don't post there any more. When did you last see anyone from XenForo? The reason is, they get their heads bitten off by the usual gang, and the staff seem to, if not condone it, tacitly tolerate it by standing back and ignoring it.

As long as that continues, staff reps won't post.
